I saw both of these last week and figured I'd drop my thoughts on here. It's no secret that I'm a huge comic book and Harry Potter fan. Needless to say, these were the two movies I was looking forward to the most this summer. Let's break it down.
HP7 Pt2:
So glad they broke these up into two movies. The last book was so good and such an emotional rollercoaster that there is no way it would have fit into a 2.5 -3hr film. So what did I think? I really enjoyed it! The last half of the final story was filled with non stop action with very little to no "slow" scenes like Deathly Hallows Part One. The movie did a great job of explaining all the story elements from the books and tying up loose ends by bringing it all together in the final scenes. In most of the recent Harry Potter movies, things have been left out or quickly rushed through, but HP7 Pt 2 did a good job of not doing this to the point where you could "feel" it like in previous movies. COUGH Half Blood Prince COUGH At the end of the movie I was fully satisfied with how it all went down and slightly sad that this will be the last installment of a series that, in my opinion, has some of the best story telling we have ever seen/read.
Captain America:
This was THE movie for me this summer. Yes I was excited about Harry Potter too, but I have read the book and I knew what happened. But Cap, I had no idea if this was going to live up to the massive hype I built up in my head. I am very happy to say that it did! Captain America played out great! The movie kept good pace with a nice mix of story and action. I never caught myself thinking "ok, let's get on with it" like I did in Thor. The movie took care in telling the origin story in a really great way, captured the "corniness"of Cap when he first dropped on the scene and picked up the action quickly. Chris Evans did a great job playing Steve Rogers and the costume design was awesome. The visuals were on point and the action scenes weren't over the top, but had that "comic book" flair. I really enjoyed Captain America and am even more stoked to see the Avengers next year!
